1. to make the most of something 盡其所能

ex: I'll make the most of it by running some errands. 

我會充分利用時間去辦些事情。


2. to let one off the hook 放人一馬/卸去責任

ex: I almost got blamed for losing the new client, but the boss let me off the hook

我差點因丟了新客戶而完蛋,但老闆沒跟我計較。


3. patch things up 和解/彌補關係

ex: Harry tried to patch things up with Betty after she stormed out of the sales meeting.

Betty負氣離開銷售會議後,Harry試圖向她道歉 。


4. labor of love 無怨無悔/心甘情願

ex: My uncle's antique shop is a labor of love.

我是心甘情願到我叔叔的骨董店做事。


5. corner the market(corner the __ marker/corner the market __) 壟斷/稱霸市場

ex: Atari had cornered the video game market until Nintendo introduced Super Mario.

雅達利壟斷了遊戲市場,直到任天堂推出超級瑪利歐。


6. take the bull by the horns 面對挑戰 不畏艱難

ex: We need to take the bull by the horns and figure out how to get our company out of debt.

我們要不畏艱難,想辦法幫公司消除債務。


7. butter someone up 拍馬屁

ex: Larry has been buttering up the boss for months, so he was surprised when he didn't get the promotion.

Larry這幾個月來都在奉承老闆,所以當他沒有得到晉升時,感到很訝異。


8. a solid grasp on something or of something 好好掌握某事或某物

ex: Do you have a solid grasp on anything?

你擅長什麼?


9. have a lot on one's plate 背負許多工作或責任

ex: Do you want to take on that new client I met at the expo?  Sorry, I have too much plate already.

你想接我在博覽會認識的那個新客戶嗎?  抱歉,我滿了,真的無法收。


10. go the extra mile 多走一哩路  更多的付出

ex: She always goes the extra mile for her coworkers.

她總是為同事付出很多。


11. make headway 趕進度

ex: We really need to make headway on this project before the new year.

我們真的需要在新的一年之前在這個專案取得新的進展。
